BOARD BIOs

    • Darcy is a second-semester junior majoring in Philosophy at Yale University. Community involvement is a cornerstone of her university experience. She has had the honor of serving as co-president of the Dominican Students Association at Yale Quisqueyalies for the past 3 semesters, where she’s cooked fritura, fundraised, traveled to the D.R., and made countless memories. Besides DSA, Darcy dances for Yale’s premier Latin dance team, Sabrosura, and leads tours at the Yale Center for British Art. Darcy looks forward to planning the National Dominican Students Conference and welcoming even more Dominicans to Yale’s campus!

  • Karla (she/ella) is a junior in Ezra Stiles majoring in Global Affairs, with a Spanish and Human Rights Certificate. She was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic and then moved to Florida when she was 4, and then to New Jersey where she has lived since. She is on the board of the Dominican Students Association and the Yale Undergraduate Human Rights Journal. She also serves as an interpreter for the Legal Services Clinic at the Yale Law School as well as co-Head Peer Liaison at La Casa Cultural. She is very involved in YIRA’s international Model UN conferences. She is so excited to welcome Dominicans from everywhere to Yale’s Campus!

    • Michaell is a junior in Saybrook College majoring in Ethnicity, Race, and Migration with a certificate in Spanish. He was born and raised in Santiago, Dominican Republic, but also calls The Bronx his second home after living there for the past 12 years. He is passionate about human rights and immigration, especially when it relates to the context of Latin America and the Caribbean, and hopes to attend law school in the future. At Yale, he is involved in multiple student organizations including the Yale Interpretation Network, Yale’s Undergraduate Black Pre-Law Association, Sabrosura- Yale’s Premier Latin dance team, Claro Que Si - Yale’s Latine Undergraduate Magazine, the Dominican Student Association, and one of the Head Student Coordinator at La Casa Cultural - Yale’s Latine Cultural Center. Outside of Yale he is also a Trainer for the Quinnipiac Law School Human Trafficking Prevention Project and has continuously worked with the National Education Equity Lab. In his free time he enjoys listening to music, spending time with friends, and dancing.

    • Alejandra is junior in JE, majoring in Math with a certificate in French. Alongside her academic ventures, she is enjoys cooking with DSA, singing with Shades of Yale, dancing with Sabrosura. She's born and raised in New Bedford, MA with roots in Bani, Dominican Republic.

    • Charlize  is a junior in Pauli Murray College majoring in Ethnicity, Race, and Migration & History of Science Medicine and Public Health with a certificate in Spanish. She was born and raised in Santiago, Dominican Republic, but moved to Perth Amboy New Jersey when she was 7 years old.  She is passionate about the intersection public health and law and hopes to attend law school in the future. At Yale, she is one of the co-founders and co-presidents of Yale Lawtinas, a project lead for the Yale Hunger project, the publicity chair for Yale’s premier Latin Dance group Sabrosura, a Matriculate college fellow, and a Peer Liaison for La Casa Cultural Julia de Burgos. Outside of Yale, she is a board member for a food rescue non-profit called Haven’s Harvest. You will always always find her with her digital camera, documenting her friends’ silliest moments or the scenic views of New Haven. She loves to bake and play tennis and is an amateur florist.

    • Karen is from Santo Domingo and she is leading outreach for NDSC! She is studying Biomedical engineering with a concentration in Biomechanics and is also a board member of Yale SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) and Yale Steppin’ Out!

    • Hey! My name is Demetrius Profic and I am a sophomore in Pierson College! I am studying African American Studies and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. I currently serve as the secretary for the Yale Dominican Students Association and cannot be more excited for the National Dominican Student Conference! Around campus, I’m involved with other clubs such as the Yale Pardon Program and Yale’s Premier Latin Dance Team, Sabrosura! My favorite thing by far about the Dominican Students Association (besides the food) is definitely the sense of community among its members. I cannot wait to welcome everyone onto campus and to meet each and every one of you!

    • Isabel Garrigó is a sophomore majoring in Architecture from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She spent this past summer working at an architecture firm based in Santo Domingo, Simples Arquitectura. She is passionate about historical preservation, and contemporary art. On campus, she is part of the Ink and Vellum Urban Studies and Architecture interest group, and DSA.
